Snow is something that doesn’t fail to impress anyone, even if they’ve lived in a northern country all their life. Snow is usually a synonym of cold and of Winter, but we can’t help but relate it to good times and warm feelings, which is strange if you consider that snow could be more of a nuisance than something positive. And snow is also a medium for fun – just ask anyone who just came from ski holidays, or someone who’s discovered the thrill of snowboarding.
So much depends on snow, but most of all our wintertime fun. Crops could probably do without it, but skiers and snowboarders can’t. Sure we can have artificial snow, but it’s not the same thing.
Skiing and snowboarding are strange sports, if you look at them. You’re out in the cold having fun when everyone else’s wish would be to stay indoors and drink some warm tea. And that’s one of the reasons why they are considered extreme sports, especially snowboarding. But there’s nothing like the thrill of going down a snowy peak at high speeds and the corresponding adrenalin rush. Much like bungee jumping or rock climbing, they’re sports that are connected with the thrill of a bit of danger around them.
